The Irish Terrier originated in Ireland, but how the breed was created remains for speculation. It might have come from the wire-haired Black and Tan terrier which was known in Britain since the 17th century. Some point out its resemblance to the Irish Wolfhound. It was first introduced to the public at a show in Dublin, in 1875. Soon after, a breed standard was drafted which has changed very little to this day
